An overview of ECA results in Tore SupraFunded under: FP3-FUSION 11C
The electron cyclotron absorption diagnostic on Tore Supra consists of a microwave transmission system installed on a vertical chord crossing the plasma centre and working in the frequency range 77-109 GHz. It has been operated both in the O-mode and in the X-mode, at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd electron-cyclotron harmonics. The potential of a new type of diagnostic with six vertical chords is discussed and an overview of the main experimental results obtained is presented. These include observation of MHD activity, measurement of the parallel electron distribution during lower hybrid current drive and of its relaxation times, first measurement of the X-mode optical depth at the 3rd harmonic, measurement of the electron temperature from the width of the spectral absorption line, and observation and analysis of wave focusing near the cyclotron frequency.
