The production of suitable and economically viable materials and fibres from renewable sources has been studied. The aim was to identify possible ways of using these materials in non-traditional applications. The publication describes starch in its natural form, and the process which makes its constituent polymers accessible. The polysaccharides are complemented by cellulosis materials and flax fibres as well as some other natural polymers. Biodegradable polymers that are technologically produced by fermentation of natural substances and petroleum derived polymers are also discussed.
