The radiological exposure of the population of the European Community to radioactivity in the Mediterranean sea : MARINA-MED projectFunded under: FP3-NFS 1
The MARINA-MED project is concerned with the radiological impact of radionuclides, both natural and anthropogenic, in the waters of the Mediterranean. This proceedings contains reports from the four working groups, and seventeen original contributions. Results show that overall, collective doses to the populations of the member states from Mediterranean waters are very low, about 2 man Sv. This is at least three orders of magnitude lower than the collective dose estimated for releases into the North European seas. Existing networks for monitoring marine radioactivity along the EU coasts of the Mediterranean are seen to be adequate for the purpose.
