Abstract

The Riso hot cell facility under decommissioning is the only facility of its kind in Denmark. Since 1964, all types of nuclear fuels have been handled and examined after irradiation by various physical and chemical, non-destructive and destructive techniques. Also, radiotherapy sources have been produced (mainly Co-60). The decommissioning work relates to six concrete cells, several shielded steel cells and glove boxes. The main contaminants are Co-60, Cs-137 and alpha-emitters. The report describes the dismantling and decontamination tasks (carried out from 1990 to 1994), the waste disposal and the received individual and collective doses to reach IAEA stage 2. The tasks were performed without using sophisticated decontamination techniques.
