Abstract

The stabilisation of plasmas with a highly elongated cross-section in the TCV tokamak cannot be completely guaranteed by means of conventional thyristor-based power supplies and coils located outside the vacuum chamber. A retro-action system is therefore needed, comprising modular, high-power AC/DC power supplies. Here requirements and characteristics peculiar to such a system (nature of the charge, connection with the plasma, protection, monitoring and control) are described, along with initial choices and ideas defined for implementation.
