Radiometric enhancement and preservation of radar reflectivity in SAR images by adaptive speckle filters : Theory and experimental results
Speckle filtering and radar reflectivity restoration are among the main points of interest in the field of SAR image processing in remote sensing. In the first part of this document, the statistical properties of the speckle in images produced by the coherent imaging system are revisted. The second part is dedicated to a theoretical analysis of the most common speckle filters developed for SAR images. In the last part, the preservation of the mean radar reflectivity is experimentally verified for the most common speckle filters. It is shown that all these filters preserve accurately the mean radar reflectivity. This means radar reflectivity restored by these filters converges to the same value when the number of equivalent views increases.
