Proposal for a European butter databank
This document summarises the possible options for the establishment of an electronic information exchange network, which could be called EURBUDA (European Pure Butter Databank), for the Directorate-General for Agriculture DG VI, in Brussels, and the National Intervention Boards responsible for the administration and the purchase of butter into intervention. Other national sector organisations could be associated with this network. The software loaded on the IBM computer, (Macha), will provide resources to other computers on the network. The IBM server (Urano) is located at the Environment Institue (EI) of the JRC at Ispra in Italy, is accessible via Internet (Telnet and FTP), X.25 and has installed several protocols, including Kermit and X, Y, Z Modem. Urano is used to handle and manage the licences for ADABAS and ORACLE, maintain a list of electronic mail addresses, and process submitted electronic mail for distribution to subscribers. Urano is an authentication server as it has software that verifies user privileges on the network.
