Standardisation, demonstration and evaluation of the environmental advantages of a low-head turbineFunded under: ENG-THERMIE 1
The report describes the development, standardisation and demonstration of the ANT (axial-flow lower head turbine), a new horizontal Kaplan turbine of the hollow pier type. Its special characteristics are the highest possible environmental friendliness, especially due to a water-filled hub, and the advantages for the customer of compact design, reduction of delivery and installation times, and optimum serviceability. The standardisation work supported by the EC during the development of the series does more than compensate for the extra costs related to pollution control. Since 1992, the demonstration plant has been operating without significant problems and with the expected high efficiency.
