Abstract

The Asco II project consisted of the development of a mini-hydro power plant in a forest site renowned for winter and summer tourism. The plant is located on a river whose exploitable hydro potential has proved to be that of three plants. The formidable environmental constraints of the site have in fact enriched the project, and made it an example and a reference for future projects of this nature in mountainous zones. The strong points of the project are the great care taken in the design of the water-intake system and its fishpass, the underground passage of the penstock and electric cable and the choice of minimal dimensions for the intake and powerhouse.
