Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

RTO is a common term for research and technology organisations which provide technology-related services such as basic and applied research, technical consultancy, certification and testing, and dissemination of technical information to groups of companies either in the same sector (for example, construction, textiles, wood) or concerned with the same technology (for example, laser, welding, robotics). The eighteen RTO networks detailed in this booklet are specifically concerned with quality, and were amongst those accepted for support further to the recent Sprint call for proposals. These projects bring together approximately 80 collective research centres, universities and institutes from most member states, covering traditional industrial sectors such as textiles, leather, glass and food-processing industries, as well as advanced technologies such as computer vision. They are concerned with general quality-management issues and practices as well as with more specific topics such as certification, quality control, non-destructive testing and interpretation of international quality standards.
