Many metal-working industries use high pressure die casting (HPDC) to produce near-finished components of aluminium and other metals. HPDC is the worst of all commercial casting processes, in that it produces highly porous components. As a result of Brite/EuRam and VALUE projects, British SME Hi-Tec Metals will soon have patented a new method for producing cast metal components of much higher quality, using less energy and raw materials.
