This article presents a summary of the main findings of a major study on the long-term prospects for renewable energy in Europe. The study reports on the technical and economic position of each technology, both in the current situation and in the light of foreseeable future developments. It investigates the possible penetrations of technologies up to 2010, on the basis of four different scenarios. Finally it analyses constraints on further penetration, and discusses actions to overcome these constraints.
