Technology and society in Europe : EU initiatives in technology assessmentFunded under: FP3-VALUE 2
Science and technology feeds economic development and plays an ever increasing role in society. Almost every aspect of daily life is affected by technology. However, there is still a general lack of understanding between scientists and the public about the needs of society and the full potential of science and technology. In order to bridge this gap, there needs to be concerted effort on behalf of the Community and national governments to increase dialogue between researchers and the public, and to increase understanding of the social and economic impacts of science and technology. There is little doubt that these actions make an important contribution to transformation of technological knowledge into successful products and services of long-term benefit.
