Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The EU's programmes for research and technological development (RTD) aim to contribute to Europe's industrial competitiveness, sustainable development and the quality of life. Increasingly, however, it is recognised that this contribution involves much more than the development of specific technologies and know-how. It calls for wide-ranging inputs from the social sciences (such as sociology, management, economics), disciplines which to date have had little focus at a European level. This social dimension, however, will be vital in realising a Europe in tune not only with the needs of industry but also with the aspirations of its citizens. The new TSER programme aims to lay the foundation for the sustainable development of Europe's economies.
