Moiré interferometry applied to the analysis of deformations in a stressed concrete column
Moiré interferometry can provide impartial advantages over other classical strain measurements such as whole surface examination and good sensitivity to displacement. The technique has been used at JRC Ispra for studying the distribution of displacements and strains in a reinforced concrete column, when a cyclic movement was applied to its free upper end, simulating behaviour under the action of an earthquake. A full-field of the strain distribution was observed; displacements were resolved down to at least one tenth of a fringe (16 micron).
