MAHB activities : The European Union's Major Accident Hazards Bureau
The MAHB, based at Ispra in Northern Italy, has three major activities. The Community Documentation Centre on Industrial Risk is a library of public-domain material, both published and unpublished, on all aspects of industrial risk and safety, especially matters concerning the Seveso Directive and its implementation in the member states. The Major Accidents Reporting System (MARS) is a database containing information about accidents notified under the Seveso Directive, material from which is published from time to time. The third activity is to provide technical and scientific support to the policy-making activities of the European Commission in the area of industrial risk and safety. This includes the preparation of guidelines in various areas, as well as the holding of seminars and commissioning of studies.
