Turbulent transport of diluted impuritiesFunded under: FP3-FUSION 11C
A small concentration of a selected impurity species is a useful investigative tool for the study of plasma transport properties. The precise value of concentration necessary depends on the plasma conditions, and is different in collisionless (collective) processes such as plasma turbulence from its value in collisional processes such as neoclassical transport. This paper analyses the dynamics of impurities in both types of situation. Results are shown to be consistent with experimental observations in various regimes of machine operation.
