Abstract

Building upon previous surveys and evaluations of collaborative R&D in Europe, this study presents an in-depth evaluation of the management of collaboration in EC R&D programmes. Partner firms and academics from thirteen Framework Programme projects were interviewed to gain insight into the characteristics of industrial participation across the different programmes. In order to investigate management of collaboration in different circumstances, case studies were selected according to three parameters: different collaborative structures, different types of partner, and different types of project R&D. A number of conclusions were drawn about the operation of collaborations established under Framework Programme contracts.
