Energy from biomass : Progress in thermochemical conversionFunded under: FP3-JOULE 2
This book includes a general overview of the programme on biomass thermal processing, together with progress reports on current and recent European projects funded by the JOULE programme. These are arranged according to process type, with sections on pyrolysis, gasification, upgrading and utilisation, testing, slurries and environment, liquefaction, and technoeconomics and modelling. Previously developed flash pyrolysis processes are now available commercially and new pyrolysis technologies are being developed in Belgium, Greece, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the UK. Modelling of the underlying thermal process is being carried out in Italy. Catalytic upgrading is still at an early stage of development with laboratory research being carried out in France, Finland, Germany and Greece. The technoeconomics of bio-oil and liquid fuel production are important for eventual commercial exploitation and are currently being studied in the UK.
