  • Calculation of magnetic field line topology of ergodized edge zone in real tokamak geometry : Application to the tokamak Tore Supra through the MASTOC code

Abstract

The plasma wall interaction is of crucial importance in tokamak physics. Two divertor configurations are experienced: the axisymmetric and the ergodic divertors. The latter is in use on Tore Supra. It appears that the particle and heat deposition on the plasma facing components in the presence of the resonant magnetic perturbation of the ergodic divertor depends on the magnetic connection topology at the edge. The field line tracing code, MASTOC, allows the determination of this complex topology. From the ergodic divertor perturbation model it is possible to derive the Hamiltonian formalism particularly adapted to this problem.
