Abstract

The basis for modelling an ergodic divertor is described, together with the geometry of the coils, and the coordinates and calculation of the magnetic perturbation spectrum. Geometric estimation of the divertor resonance makes it possible to calculate the adjustment of the magnetic equilibrium to the wetting of the neutralisers. The analysis deals next with the toroidal and poloidal spectra of magnetic perturbation in the edge plasma. By modifying the spectrum, effects of the divertor at the plasma edge can be determined and from this, knowledge of the ergodic zone as a whole can be gained. Study of the magnetic structure induced by the divertor provides sufficient information for a quantitative analysis of the main experimental results. This achievement forms a reliable basis for predicting the properties of the ergodic divertor in new configurations.
