Abstract

A general graph is presented which describes, in a two-dimensional parameter space (n,p), various regimes of collisional and weakly collisional diffusion for guiding centres in a stochastic time-independent magnetic field. The regimes appearing in the literature are recalled, most results are rederived in a simple way, and their respective domains of validity are made explicit in terms of three parameters (n, p, delta). The respective order of magnitude of the diffusivities are revisited, and new recent results are included in the discussion.
