Segmentation and interpretation of NOAA-AVHRR multi-temporal NDVI based data sets in temperate regions
The NDVI (Normalised Difference Vegetation Index) can be used to detect regions with a similar vegetation profile. Seventeen NOAA-AVHRR images of the Andalusian region of Spain were selected and preprocessed (calibration, atmospheric and geometric corrections) before computing their NDVI. An unsupervised by pixcel classification led to isolated pixcels and a difficult interpretation of classes. Spatial information enhanced by segmentation can classify homogeneous zones without loss of temporal discrimination.
