Abstract

Energy is a commodity in short supply in a mountain refuge, so devices designed for the situation should make minimum energy demands. The plant for treatment of sanitary wastes at the Rifugio Deffeyes uses anaerobic digestion powered by thermal energy supplied by an innovative solar system. Results are presented for the '92, '93 and '94 seasons, which confirm the suitability of the design, which achieves very high mineralisation and stabilisation of the sludge.
