An optomechanical detector for weak, low frequency (0.1 - 20 Hz) mechanical vibrations has been developed and patented. The detector is essentially a dynamical interferometer, coupled to an air floated optical table. A mechanical model of the system, including the effects of surface tension, electrostatic charge, contact forces, fluid flow, thermal and mechanical properties, and the existence of multiple non-resonant cavities, is currently under development. Further refinements and applications of the system are proposed.
