Effects of laser surface treatment on high cycle fatigue of AISI 316 stainless steelFunded under: JRC-ADVMAT 2C
Surface treatments can be beneficial in improving fatigue resistance. This paper investigates the effect of laser surface remelting on high cycle fatigue properties in experiments on stainless steel. It was possible to create a fine grained surface layer, because of the high solidification rates due to self-quenching. The influence of process parameters on the microstructure and on subsequent behaviour is investigated.
