Optimizing the number of a-Si solar cells in a module for load matching
A number of studies have reported on the optimum matching of DC loads with x-Si (crystalline) solar modules, mainly with a water pumping system as load. This study considers the possibility of the reconfiguration of solar cells in a given size/power module. The advantage of the industrial fabrication of an a-Si module is that the number of solar cells connected in series can be altered by changing the layout of the laser patterning, without affecting the packing factor. The power/voltage characteristics of an a-Si solar cell are also wider than those of an x-Si solar cell.
