Universal structure of the sediment bottom logarithmic layer
Universal dependences are obtained for the mean velocity, sediment concentration and turbulence characteristics on parameters determining the vertical structure of the sediment bearing bottom logarithmic layer. The phase portrait of the sediment stratified influence domain is reproduced. It is shown that the Kolmogorov number, describing the effect of sediment stratification, increases with height if w(s)/ku(*) <= 0.5 and decreases with height if 0.75 <= w(s)/ku(*) <= 1/k. Its change with height in the range of w(s)/ku(*) from 0.5 to 0.75 is due not only to w(s)/ku(*) but also to u(*)/u(*c). Thus, unlike the atmospheric surface layer, the influence of sediment stratification may become apparent both at great heights and within the vicinity of the bed, depending on the values of w(s)/ku(*) and u(*)/u(*c).
