Abstract

Within the framework of the OCTOPUS programme, which aims to exploit new data from future ocean colour missions, a SeaWiFs data processing software package is under development at the JRC's Institute for Remote Sensing Applications. It is designed to process either HRPT or HDF format SeaWiFs Level l data (LAC and GAC) to provide atmospherically corrected radiances and derived geophysical products, such as chlorophyll concentration, suspended matter, and dissolved organic matter (YS). The software also provides utilities for the visualisation of both the Level l data and the derived Level 2 products. The processing software has been written in C, and the display software has been developed using the IDL. The underlying physical concepts, as well as the applied software techniques are described, and initial results derived from a simulated SeaWiFs data set are presented.
