Severe accident research at the Joint Research CentreFunded under: JRC-REACTSAFE 6C
Severe accident research at the JRC has recently focused on the improvement of source term evaluation and the study of phenomena related to the interaction of molten corium with coolant and structures in the reactor vessel and the containment. The JRC has given support to the international Phebus FP programme, and its associated informatic system ESTER, and to the STORM facility for the study of aerosol deposition and resuspension. The FARO programme includes melt quenching large-scale tests in the FARO plant, a small-scale test programme in KROTOS (for FCI studies) and the development/validation of models and codes such as COMETA.
