Abstract

The European Union pharmaceutical regulatory activity is moving towards a new phase after the introduction of the new method for market authorisation and the start up of the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA). This new scenario implies a substantial increase in the communication and co-operation tasks which take place among the various actors involved, for example, EMEA, national regulatory authorities, the Commission and pharmaceutical companies. EurdraNet is an added value Internet working environment which could provide co-operation and communication features assuring a consistent support for the network applications needed by the above mentioned production processes. In particular EudraNet can provide: (i) electronic mail and file transfer services; (ii) network publishing services; (iii) pharmacovigilance urgent message and required information application; (iv) European product index; (v) document system and application tracking services for market authorisation. In addition, depending on the development of the bandwidth of the underlying communication technology, EudraNet will provide advanced functions such as desktop videoconferencing for increased co-operation among users.
