Abstract

The performance of the Euratom time correlation analyser (TCA) was investigated in a field test at SCK-CEN on a series of plutonium samples. Materials made available for the test were PuO(2) powder, MOX powder and pellets in a range between 30 and 60 g Pu total and an isotopic composition with a 239Pu abundance of 60 or 80 wt %, and a depleted U content of approximately 1 kg. The Euratom TCA, connected to a well counter (detector efficiency 27.5 %, and die-away time 50 micro sec.) was used in the measurement campaign. The measured data were analysed by the multiplicity counter technique comparing measured and calculated multiplicity distributions. The data were compared with results obtained from chemical analysis.
