Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The paper describes the operation of the Community Documentation Centre on Industrial Risk (CDCIR) and its relevance for loss prevention and safety promotion in the process industries. The CDCIR (which is now part of the Major Accident Hazards Bureau) was created by the European Commission with the objective of contributing to a harmonised implementation of the EU Directive on major accident hazards by: (i) collecting and diffusing information on the national approaches to the implementation of the Directive; on technical guidance and codes of good practice concerning the activities covered by the Directive; on accident investigation and other related issues; (ii) publishing studies and other work promoted by the European Commission on issues related to the implementation of the Directive. The studies already published cover topics such as accident reporting and analysis, safety reports and safety management systems, risk assessment and land use planning, emergency planning and information to the public.
