Photovoltaic electrification of about 35 rural houses in SolsonesFunded under: ENG-THERMIE 2
The aim of this project was the electrical supply to 35 remote sites, mostly dwellings, in a rural mountain area, with scattered population and low density (11 habitations/km2). The area, located in the Prepyrenean range, has an average solar radiation of 4.34 kWh/m2/day (s = 55 ). In the design of the energy system for each site, technological and economic aspects have been considered as well as the specific demands and expectations of the users. Five types of photovoltaic (PV) array structure location have been defined and two levels of supply: low level to cover a demand of about 500 Wh/day and intermediate level to cover about 1,500 Wh/day. In the first case, the objective is to supply the requirements of lighting and communication (radio, TV, radio emitter); in the second case, the above requirements also include the use of appliances and small electrical tools. The latter supply is qualitatively equivalent to that of the grid. A users association has been founded in order to organise preventive maintenance, a repair service and the insurance of the systems. The installations came into operation between December 1988 and October 1989.
