Abstract

At Hoogovens Ijmuiden Steelworks considerable quantities of residual heat (mainly in closed cooling-water circuits) are available within a temperature range of between 40 and 100 C. Past conventional methods for large-scale utilisation of the residual heat did not prove economically viable. Following a feasibility study and a preparatory investigation, an absorption heat pump of type II was constructed and erected at Hoogovens. After a six-month demonstration period, new performance tests were carried out and technical modifications were implemented.
