Abstract

In the remotely controlled dismantling of the activated pressure tube reactor of the German Niederaichbach power plant during 1990-92, increased dust in the exhaust air was expected as a result of cutting processes such as milling, grinding and plasma cutting. A cleanable filter plant was therefore installed before the work commenced. Investigations during and after the work was completed showed the benefits of this installation. Waste of radioactive filter elements was reduced and filter replacements could be avoided, thus reducing radiation exposure for personnel at the plant.
