Abstract

The aim of this study is to verify the transforming activity on A31-1-1 cells of a weak tumour promoter, 2,3,4,2'4'5' hexachlorinated biphenyl (hexaCB) and its proliferation stimulating activity on the 3T3-L1 cell line. Results confirmed data obtained with cytotoxicity tests and the growth curves. A significant number of type III foci were produced in the A31-1-1 cell line with doses of 0.5 micro-g/ml up to 25 micro-g/ml. The presence of type I and type II foci in the control plates and a significant number of type III foci in the treated plates indicates the promoting activity of hexaCB in in vitro cellular systems other than cultured liver cells.
