Abstract

Colorimetry is used at TEXTOR to study the thickness of thin transparent co-deposits of carbon and hydrogen. The facility provides a video and an image processing system quantifying the interference colours. Erosion rates of up to -22 nm/sec have been measured on a spherical graphite test piece exposed in the SOL. Part of the carbon is promptly redeposited, but the transition range between net erosion and deposition fluctuates. Erosion is observed around the tangency point; beyond 2 cm into the SOL, deposition is affected by limiter geometry.
