Scientific tools to support the environmental management
This article outlines the aggregation of non-equivalent representations which arise in the field of environmental management. It concerns systems which implement the most advanced formal techniques of operational research by means of suitable information technologies. Two systems which are being set up at the JRC are described. The first is a support system for the management and control of the cleaning up of a large river basin, the second is aimed at aiding the disposal of toxic and hazardous industrial waste on a regional scale.
