Abstract

Based on 1776 descriptions of water transport accidents with dangerous goods, the environmental problems associated with releases of this kind are discussed. It was shown that the volumes of crude oil releases are approximately five times larger than releases of oil products. Only 2 % of the 1776 accidents described contained information on consequences to living organisms, and 10 % contained information on consequences to ecosystems.
