This article presents a study of some aspects of the use of ultrasonic surface waves for inspection of coated components. The elastic characteristics of the coating and of the substrate materials were measured using a transmission method for parallel-faced plates. The velocity of the shear and compression waves propagating in various directions was obtained by changing the angle of incidence on the sample surface.
