Abstract

These guidelines explain how to describe and assess both active and passive solar technologies, and include format sheets for technical descriptions and for the results of performance assessments. They are focused on the most common applications: (i) active solar applications with a collector area of 10 m2 or more, used for water heating, space heating, space cooling, swimming pool heating, agricultural driers, agricultural greenhouses; (ii) passive solar systems in residential, educational, commercial and industrial buildings, using direct solar gain, sunspace, glazed wall, daylighting, cooling load avoidance or passive cooling. A detailed guide to the selection, installation and use of instrumentation is also included.
