Volume and mass measurement in the input accountancy tank of the reprocessing plant by the IDMS tracer technique
The work reviews the applications of the tracer technique used in the determination of the mass of fissile material present in the input accountancy tank of plant reprocessing irradiated fuel. Developments over the last ten years are highlighted, and in particular the contribution of the JRC Ispra. This has included the introduction of mass spectrometry instrumentation, the use of different tracers (particularly lutetium or erbium) and the study of their complete separation from the process solution.
