Abstract

One of the major issues in the study of thermonuclear fusion with magnetic confinement is that study of forces caused by variation of magnetic fields in the structures surrounding the plasma. The design of the blankets and the other structures surrounding the plasma is strongly affected by the necessity for maintaining the stresses caused by rapid magnetic field variations (e.g. during disruptions) within acceptable limits. The first few papers discuss operating experience of disruptions, the next three consider the validation of relevant computer codes, and the last deal with calculations of electromagnetic forces caused in various types of blanket by plasma disruptions.
