Validation of mathematical models of the ultrasonic inspection of steel components : Part I : Validation of 3 models
For this validation exercise, models predicting the amplitude of the ultrasonic echoes as a function of probe position have been chosen. Three of the models had provided an example of prediction for specific defects in the inspection of steel components, and these are considered in this report. The results of the models are compared with experimental observations, and the situations identified in which the models work well or fail. In particular, further work is needed for defects having curved edges and for near-surface defects.
