Abstract

The aim of the Quench Experiment on Long Length (QUELL) is to provide: (i) a simulation of the quench propagation in a typical, ITER relevant, Cable In Conduit (CIC) conductor; (ii) the development of new quench detection sensors and procedures; (iii) experimental checks of the existing numerical codes GANDALF and Quencher against reliable experimental data. This report outlines the cable and sample design, and cryogenic layout, and presents the results of numerical simulations.
