Abstract

The magnetic and structural properties of the thin-film system Fe/Cu(001) were investigated by spin-polarised and conventional appearance-potential spectroscopy. The spin asymmetry of the measured signal provides direct information on the target magnetisation and anistropy with high surface sensitivity. The line shape is sensitive to the crystal structure of the films. The present work demonstrates the direct correlation of magnetism and structure in this thin-film system by means of a single measurement.
