Abstract

From October 1993 to April 1994 the ETHEL calorimeter was made available to TLK for active tritium measurements on four portable getter beds of Amersham design, with tritium inventories ranging from 1 to 23 kCi. The calorimeter was calibrated using an electrical heat source with a high degree of simulation to the active getter bed. Error analysis revealed a negative bias of about 3 mW over the whole range measured. Tritium inventory measurements could be reproduced with an absolute standard deviation of less than 30 Ci which is equivalent to 1 mW, independent of the actual tritium inventory of the getter bed.
