Abstract

The Reactor Safety Programme of the JRC is focused on the study of phenomena occurring during accidents, in particular so-called severe accidents in light water reactors (LWR). The programme is subdivided into the following main activities: (i) source term, with the participation in the international Phebus-FP programme, the development of the European source term code package ESTER and the experimental project on the investigation of aerosol deposition and resuspension phenomena STORM; (ii) FARO, an experimental project on the interaction of molten corium with coolant and reactor structures, performed in cooperation with European and US organisations (iii) thermohydraulics which, in addition to the conclusion of LOBI test analysis documentation, includes support activities to the previous subjects.
