Abstract

This paper presents the mainly European efforts being made to unify corrosion testing of materials at high temperatures. The organisational approach is highlighted and details of the modular assembly of test methods are given. Currently, most effort is being focused on refining methods by which the severity of corrosive attack can be accurately quantified, regardless of the environmental conditions of exposure. Guidelines for carrying out corrosion tests are steadily evolving, but few attempts have yet been made to write specific standards covering testing in defined environments.
